Harley (left) is a male Macaw and Rainbow (right) is a female. They have been at Octagon since around 2000. Both were owned by a local doctor who kept them in the waiting room of the office.
While waiting for the doctor, people would teach Harley new words – usually bad ones. Sometimes you will hear that side and it’s shocking! Rainbow keeps him company, and you will hear them both greeting you with a "hello" over and over! Thankfully, not much else Harley says is understandable most of the time. Macaws can live to be 80 years old.
KC is a male Blue and Gold Macaw born in 1999. He's been with the sanctuary for many years. He loves peanuts, pea pods, grapes and our special blend of seed. Macaws can live to be 80+ years old.
RuRu is a male Scarlet Macaw born in 1995. He was very naughty and bit his owner all the time, so we welcomed him to our family. RuRu does speak if taught, and can say "cracker" when we give him a treat.
Tango is a male Blue and Gold Macaw, born in 2008. His owners had to find another home for him due to caring for a relative with Alzheimers. He loves his seed, nuts, vegetables and a bit of bread.
The aviary is made up of pigeons, doves and peacocks that have come from many different sources for us to care for. Their diets consist of fresh lettuce, finely diced vegetables and dry goods like cereals, grains, bread, etc. that they share harmoniously with all the birds as well as a few squirrels that may drop in.
