Marble is a female fox born in 2016. She is a cross between an arctic fox and a red fox, known as a "marble" fox. She was confiscated because the original owner brought her over state lines from Iowa without proper paperwork. Once in Florida, they didn't have the proper Florida license to keep her. She originally went to another facility, but they couldn't keep her so they contacted us. She is quite content being Venus's and Jupiter's neighbor.
Jupiter is a male coyote born in 2011. He was brought to us as a temporary resident, but a permanent home couldn't be found, so he stayed with us. He is happy to be Venus's neighbor. Coyotes can live up to 18 years of age under human care.
Venus is a female coyote born in 2011. She was rescued from a rehabilitation facility that couldn't keep her. Venus and her sister were attacked by a dog and her sister did not recover after suffering seizures. Venus is very shy, but loves to dig tunnels in her enclosure. She also was a temporary resident but a permanent home wasn't found, so she lives next door to Jupiter!
Chewy is a male Arctic/Gray wolf born around 2017. He and his enclosure mate Katina were brought to the sanctuary from the Seminole Indian Reservation due to a fire that was nearing the area. Our volunteers immediately went into action, arrived at the Reservation around 11:30 pm, loaded them along with 2 bears and a serval and got them back to the sanctuary around 3:30 am. While wolves tend to get very nervous in a new surrounding, they have adjusted very well and are very comfortable in their big enclosure.
Male wolves of this breed typically live to be 16 years old under human care.
Katina is a female Arctic/Gray wolf born around 2017. She and her enclosure mate, Chewy were brought to the sanctuary from the Seminole Indian Reservation due to a fire that was quickly approaching the Reservation. Female wolves of this breed typically live to 14 years under human care.
Since coming to Octagon, she has settled in very quickly and interacts with Chewy by playing and chasing him. Wolves are very nervous and leary of humans, but have adapted well.
