Charley is a female Caracal born in 2008. She was born, raised and sold in captivity to help educate people about her species. She started to get aggressive towards men and needed to be retired. Octagon is her forever home now.
Caracals are originally from Africa and Asia and thought to be related to the Serval rather than the Lynx. If you look closely at her ears, she has black tuffs of hair coming out near the tips.
When Charley hisses, it's not to show aggressiveness, it's her way of communicating.....
A Caracal can live up to 15+ years under human care.
Elsie is a female Bobcat born in 2012. Elsie is not much bigger than a large domestic cat and was privately owned. Because Elsie is considered an exotic animal, her needs were not being met as she grew older with her previous owner. Bobcats live 5-15 yrs in the wild but under human care, around 18 yrs.
Sheba is a female African Serval born around 2014. She came to Octagon along with Chewy and Katina (wolves) from the Reservation dealing with a fire. A serval has a lifespan in the wild of about 10 years, but can live up to 20 years under human care. Sheba was a bit overweight when she arrived, so our vet put her on a strict diet to get her weight down to a healthy range.
